You already know Jim Chapman Communities for being an award-winning builder of active adult homes in the metro Atlanta area. You also know that the builder is an expert in creating the perfect home environment for active adults, which includes a strong sense of community, exceptional amenities and neighborhood events. What you may not know is that last year Jim Chapman Communities introduced a Travel Club for their residents for a limited time. The term “Travel Club” can encompass so many different meanings, but at Jim Chapman Communities it means going above and beyond to ensure residents make the most of their retirement years.

Did you catch that I mentioned it was only offered for a limited time last year? Well, the good news is that the Atlanta active adult builder has reinstated the Travel Club at all of their metro Atlanta communities! The JCC Travel Club is such a perk for residents, providing them the opportunity to travel (from local performances at the Fox Theatre to destinations around the world) at a discounted rate, which opens doors that may have always been closed before. All of these great trips are open to JCC members, their friends and family as well as prospective members.

Thursday was one of the first trips for the Travel Club as they went to McMinnville, Tenn. for “Murder at the Mansion,” an interactive, murder mystery dinner show. Each attendee will assume the role of a real live character in 1897 Tennessee and at the end of the night, the guests will help Buffalo Bill Cody catch the killer. Quite an intriguing evening!

Kangaroo Conservation Center

On July 29th, the group will venture to North Georgia to visit the Kangaroo Conservation Center, Amicalola State Park and the North Georgia Premium Outlets.

The JCC Travel club has lots to do this year. Some of the bigger upcoming trips are listed below.

  • A nine-day tour of national parks including Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone and Black Hills
  • A “Vintage Trains of the Great Southwest” nine-day tour
  • A Taste of Ireland 10-day all-inclusive international trip

Happy Couple Enjoys Active Lifestyle

The Fulghams are just one of the many happy couples living in Brookhaven at Lanier Ridge, an active adult community by Jim Chapman Communities. The Fulghams have lived in the Lake Lanier area for twenty years. The couple is originally from Columbus, Ohio, but decided to make the move down to Georgia in order to start their own pool and spa business.

Over the years the couple fell in love with Lake Lanier. So when they were ready to move to a new community which complimented their active adult lifestyle, they didn’t want to move too far from the area they came to know as home.

Almost immediately, there were many things that attracted the Fulghams to the Atlanta active adult home builder. “The location, reputation and quality construction of the units is what first attracted us to Brookhaven at Lanier Ridge,” admitted Rick Fulgham. (more…)

The last time Jim Chapman Communities designed a new floorplan, the Westminster II, they took home a silver award at the Best of 50+ Housing Awards. Needless to say, we are very excited to see what the future is for the new Farrington plan.

The Farrington is available at The Haven at Lost Mountain and features three bedrooms and a basement. The spacious master suite features trey ceilings, luxurious bath with dual vanities and an oversized walk-in closet. While the master suite is situated in the back of the house off of the family room, the other two bedrooms are in the front of the house off of the foyer, giving extra privacy to the master suite. The secondary bedrooms share a bathroom.

The Farringtion is a fantastic new addition to Jim Chapman Communities, and you can take a tour of the exceptional floorplan at The Haven at Lost Mountain. Truly catering to the needs and style of the fifty-five plus generation, the Farrington will surely be Jim Chapman’s next award-winning floorplan.

Gardening Popular at Brookhaven at Johns Creek

Active Adult Home at Brookhaven at Johns Creek

When it comes to choosing the house for your retirement years, you must make sure you do your research and find a home that will provide you with the lifestyle you are seeking. Dick and Madeline Treaster understand how important it was to find the perfect active adult home when they decided to relocate from Douglasville to an active adult community, so they made sure to visit every active adult community they could throughout the metro Atlanta area. While many homes they viewed would have been adequate, Dick said he was looking for a community that offered a little more. And he found all that he was looking for and more at Brookhaven at Johns Creek by Jim Chapman Communities.

What really caught Dick’s eye about the community was the Garden Center available for resident use. Dick is an avid gardener, in fact, he has even developed the reputation amongst his friends and family as a “Mr. Green Thumb.”

Dick spends at least a half hour everyday in the garden. To date he has planted sweet corn, green beans, yellow beans, onions, red beets, zucchini, five different types of cucumbers and eight different varieties of tomatoes. He has also created a bed for growing gourds for the community’s birdhouse. He has created a bed solely dedicated to growing herbs including mint, cilantro, basil, dill, and oregano. His flower garden has also recently expanded. In addition to a variety of ivy and vine flowers, Dick has also seen one of his more than four varieties of sunflowers grow to 12-feet.

Just like the Treasters, you are sure to be impressed with everything that Brookhaven at Johns Creek has to offer. An exceptional location, homes designed and built with the active adult in mind and fantastic amenities are only one part of what makes this North Fulton County community so extraordinary.

Couple Drawn to Garden Center at Brookhaven at Johns Creek

While looking to relocate from Douglasville to an active adult community, Dick and Madeline Treaster made sure to visit every active adult community they could throughout the metro Atlanta area. After living in Douglas County for 30 years, they wanted to make sure that their move satisfied a broad range of criterion. While many homes they viewed would have been adequate, Dick said he was looking for a community that offered a little more. More specifically, somewhere he could play in the dirt.

Having grown up an avid gardener, Dick had the reputation amongst his friends and family as a “Mr. Green Thumb” of sorts. So, it came as no surprise when visiting Brookhaven at Johns Creek, that he was blown away by the community’s dedicated Garden Center.

“I have always had a garden,” said Treaster. “I grew up helping in my grandfather’s garden and later my father’s. While we loved all of the amenities Brookhaven at Johns Creek had to offer, the garden attracted me the most.”

Having been the first resident to move into the community in September of 2008, Treaster began grooming and preparing its gardens as soon as weather permitted. In February of this year, Treaster started the process of planting and seeding in the half-acre amenity.

To date he has planted sweet corn, green beans, yellow beans, onions, red beets, zucchini, five different types of cucumbers and eight different varieties of tomatoes. He has also created a bed for growing gourds for the community’s birdhouse. Recently, he began harvesting many of the crops.

He has created a bed solely dedicated to growing herbs including mint, cilantro, basil, dill, and oregano. His flower garden has also recently expanded. In addition to a variety of ivy and vine flowers, Treaster has also seen one of his more than four varieties of sunflowers grow to 12-feet.

Treaster currently spends between a half hour to three hours per day working in the garden. Although he is the only one currently maintaining the garden, he says he can’t wait for his fellow residents to join him.

“I would love to share it with my neighbors,” he said. “Right now I am able to share it with my wife, my children and my four grandsons who all enjoy getting involved.” But playing in the garden isn’t the only thing that Treaster has come to love about his new community.

“The community of Johns Creek has everything you could possibly want from restaurants to shopping,” he said. “It is so convenient to everything. My wife and I love it here.”
